Trisha Palmer is 34 and a mother of three children. Because of all the extra weight that she had put on over the years, Trisha decided to have gastric bypass, a form of stomach reduction surgery. After the surgery, she lost almost 160 pounds. But what she didn’t loose was the extra rolls of skin. That’s when Trisha decided to have body contouring to get a sculpted figure. Trisha is among the rapidly growing number of people having post-bariatric body contouring plastic surgery.

When people loose over 100 pounds, the skin doesn’t have the elastic qualities to come back to its normal shape. That’s when people opt to have body contouring to get back into shape. Though, it’s important to remember that if you wish to have body contouring you should be in good medical health. The other thing is that patients should have already experienced their maximum weight loss after the stomach reduction surgery.

Body contouring surgery is a combination of three steps – fat removal, skin removal and tightening the tummy muscles. For Trisha, it will begin with a little liposuction, followed by a tummy tuck. Her surgeon will make two horizontal incisions from hip to hip and remove the excess skin in between. Then the surgical site will be closed with staples.

As with any surgery, body contouring has its risks. The most common risk is developing a blood clot in the lungs.
