Blemishes, acne pits, birthmarks and dark circles – a bugbear for many of us. A good concealer can help you conceal these imperfections without having to opt for cosmetic surgery.

The trick here is to find the perfect concealer. Concealers are denser than foundations and are available in sticks, tubes and pots and are used to cover blemishes, dark spots, ruddy areas, marks, veins, freckles and under eye circles. A concealer may also help in hiding birthmarks, roseacea, port wine stains, scars and stretch marks.

Your choice of concealer will depend on your skin type. For people with dry skin, a concealer with emollients to counteract dryness works best. Whereas, a concealer which is oil-free and contains anti-bacterial ingredients, is best for people with oily skin.

Concealers with a thicker consistency are ideal to cover the redness of skin and dark circles under the eye. Lighter ones are better for daywear and to highlight the brow or cheekbones.

When you’re buying a concealer, test the shade of a normal concealer by standing in natural light. You may need a paler shade during winter and a deeper one in summer considering your skin tone changes with the season. If you can’t find the correct shade, try blending two shades to arrive at the perfect color.
