A plethora of pills may not be the answer to a healthier you. A better food plan can help you fight diseases and lead a healthier life.
Anemia: This is an illness than many women are prone to, especially during the child bearing years. Anemia occurs when the number of healthy red blood cells decreases in the body. You can prevent this by having enough whole wheat and wholegrain products. It’s a good idea to have fruits with their skin. You could also supplement your diet with raw foods like salads rich in Vitamin B and C to enhance iron absorption in the body.
Depression: Depression can occur due to changing hormones during menstruation. During ovulation – 14th to 15th day from day one of your period, you may also crave for food that is spicy, salty or sweet. Chocolates can also be a major part of your binges. All these foods retain more fluid in the body and can trigger off depression. It’s a good idea to reduce the intake of such food products and avoid stimulants like tea, coffee and colas.
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI): Make it a point to drink 8-10 glasses of water every day. You should have more alkaline food like fresh salads, fruits like watermelon and oranges to keep UTI away.
Breast and Ovarian Cancer: Step one to keep cancer at bay is to drink plenty of water – to flush out the toxins. You should also include fiber in your diet – have at least five servings of fruits and vegetables daily. It would be a good idea to reduce the consumption of fatty foods. Regular exercise is also another way to keep cancer away.
Osteoporosis: If you want to avoid frequent fractures, a curved spine and soft bones in the future, pay special attention to calcium rich foods because inadequate intake of calcium can bring about the onset of osteoporosis. Apart from milk, Soya is another food that has adequate calcium content. Nuts, juices and green leafy vegetables like spinach, broccoli and lettuce, tofu, fish and sesame seeds also help to maintain bone health.
