Food is not an enemy. It’s what we eat and how much we eat that determines the size of the body. If you don’t overeat and do not have a tendency to stuff yourself with deep-fried, over-loaded-with-butter goodies, then you have a good chance of shedding those extra kilos.

Try food with lesser fat because fat has twice as many calories as carbohydrates and proteins and eating too much of fat can easily lead to weight gain. But before you start cutting down drastically on fat, it’s important to remember that some amount of fat in the diet is essential for health.

Cutting down on fat doesn’t mean you have to change your diet totally. You can begin my making a few small changes to your everyday meals. So, if you like potatoes, instead of having fries, you can make a dish out of baked potato; exchange fried mushrooms for the boiled version with seasoning; or, substitute creamy youghurt with low-cream youghurt.

To keep a check on the intake of fat, read food labels; compare similar foods and choose those with fewer grams of fat; choose ‘low fat’ over the rich, creamy version; and, try skimmed or semi-skimmed milk. Instead of frying, try grilling or baking. Choose lean meat instead of those joints dripping with fat. You should also limit the amount of butter or cream that you put into food.

Try these tips and you may loose those extra rolls of fat.
