Hard Facts - Liposuction

A lot of people are opting for liposuction to get rid of excess weight. It’s a good idea to ask your surgeon where the scars will be after a round of liposuction and whether the skin will sag in the areas where fat has been removed. Also check if you are in the correct age bracket for liposuction. Find out if you have to wear a girdle and for how long.

It’s good to have a realistic expectation of the final results. Liposuction won’t get rid of stretch marks or cellulite; nor will it affect weight gain in future. This cosmetic surgery is not going to give you a figure like a supermodel, but will just take the extra fat off your body. Once liposuctioned, the fat cells in that particular area are gone forever. So if you don’t exercise and eat right, the weight gain will be in another part of the body.

Liposuction takes one to three hours and the pain varies from person to person. Some women bounce right back, while some suffer terribly. There is an amount of risk too because you could end up with uneven, bumpy contours or chicken skin, if the fat is taken from areas where the skin is more delicate.

Liposuction should never be thought of as the easier way out. If changes in diet and exercise can help you shed the unwanted baggage, then take this alternative before thinking of a dose of liposuction.
