Is Liposuction for Everyone?

Anybody who is thinking of getting liposuction must know what happens after the procedure. After liposuction patients will feel bloated, will have wounds all over and will feel distended. During liposuction, doctors go under the carpet of the skin and take away the undercoating of fat. So the raw surface oozes serum on the inside. Patients have to wear a garment with elastic pressure to control the swelling. It takes about three weeks for the swelling and bruising to subside.

People, who are in the mildly to seriously overweight category, may face another complication after liposuction – the return of fatty deposits, but probably in other areas of the body. People who have the most trouble after a liposuction are the obese lot, who have large amounts of fat removed. They have a compensatory increase in new fat cells. The greater the amount of fat and tissue fluids removed, the greater the chance of severe dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.

The ideal liposuction candidate is a mature adult between the ages of 30 and 50 years, who is in good health, who has dieted and exercised to loose the unwanted pounds. The prospective should have a realistic set of expectations and should want a limited procedure for body contouring.

If you’re planning on having liposuction because it seems like a quick way to loose extra fat, then think again. Liposuction should not be considered as a substitute for healthy diet and regular exercise.

It is important to remember that liposuction is for body contouring, recommended for people who want to remove small amounts of fatty deposits. So ideally, prospective patients should be mildly overweight and within 30 percent of their ideal body weight.
