Cosmetic Surgery for Men : Knock Knock Knockin’ on the Surgeon’s Door
December 21, 2006 - Chandana Banerjee

Wrinkles were a major bugbear for 56-year-old William Miller; for Chris Brown, a Senior Consultant, it was the desire to get a competitive edge in an office full of dashing men; and for James Grant, 60, who was inspired by his wife’s recent facelift, it was his wish to look toned-up and debonair. William, Chris and James are among the increasing number of men who are turning to plastic surgery to boost their looks.
This is also a nice way to remedy the effects of aging. A lot of health conscious men are exercising, they’ve cut down on smoking and are eating healthy food, but they are still not able to achieve the dapper look that they are gunning for. So, many opt for quick treatments that don’t cause too much of bruising and or take lengthy recovery time. Botox, microdermabrasion and laser hair removal are very popular among men for these reasons. Botox is especially popular with people as more doctors have mastery of the technique and can achieve the ‘well-rested, healthy and happy’ look that patients want.
Cosmetic surgical procedures such as nose reshaping, hair transplantation and liposuction are also popular among men. Liposuction is a procedure where excess fat is removed through a suctioning device. Men like to get this done on the lower back, upper flanks and abdomen, also known as the ‘spare tire.’
Another common request is removal of fat from under the chin – which if not dealt with, can leave an oily spot on a man’s tie knot. According to doctors, tummy tucks and body-lifts are gaining popularity too.
Even after the rise in cosmetic surgery among men, there are far more women who pay a visit to plastic surgeons. But the day is not far when there will be an equal number of men or more who’ll be knocking on the plastic surgeon’s door.
