Liposuction risks

Frances Perry, a 45-year-old manager wanted a dose of liposuction to rid himself of rolls of fat on his belly. One day, he came across an advertisement about a local cosmetologist offering liposuction at a cheaper rate. He decided to go for it. The cosmetic surgery left Frances with a jagged crease on his belly and a lopsided belly button. He then had to go to a renowned plastic surgeon to correct the botched liposuction.

Many surgeons find themselves in the challenging position of fixing problems caused by non-plastic surgeons. As medical malpractice rates skyrocket and insurance reimbursements dwindle, more doctors are turning to cosmetic surgery to make money. Patients are lured by cheaper rates and glossy advertisements endorsing the miracles of cosmetic surgery, but the results can be disastrous.

Plastic surgeons advice people considering cosmetic surgery to make sure that the surgeon is certified and has hospital privileges. They urge patients to use their consultation as an educational process. If the doctor cannot answer all your questions, then, that’s a red flag the surgeon isn’t the right one for you.

Another concern is the rise of spas offering services like peels, micro-dermabrasion and botox injections. Make sure that the beauty therapists are certified.
