The Choice to go under the Knife

Going under the surgeon’s knife can be attributed to several reasons – pressure from spouse or boyfriend; to look good for the job market; to look younger or more attractive; or, health reasons. Here are three women who tell us why they opted to have cosmetic surgery.

Mary Antwerp, 43, is a sports teacher. She had a breast reduction surgery and a breast lift surgery two years ago. Happily married for 20 years, Mary decided to have the surgery for aesthetic and health reasons. “I’m just five feet three inches and look very petite. But my breasts were a 34DD and I was very conscious of the way I looked,” says Mary.

Mary also suffered from back and shoulder pain because of the sheer weight of her breasts. Though her husband was a little worried about Mary going in for surgery, she decided to get perkier breasts.

Prior to the surgery, Mary admits she felt inclined to hide her body, especially around the swimming pool. But now she is very happy and confident with her post-surgery look.

Carol Simpson is a 28-year-old copy editor and freelances for several publishing houses.
She was extremely self-conscious about the way her breasts looked and wouldn’t ever go swimming.

"After four pregnancies and extended breast feeding, my boobs shrunk from a large 32DD to a very pitiful 32A, but I was left with the skin for bigger breasts,” explains Carol.

Carol is very happy with her surgery and can happily swim around in a bikini or wear sexy clothes.

Eve Marks, 25, is an advertising professional. She opted for liposuction twice on her legs, once aged 21 and again aged 23. Quite simply, she detested the shape of her legs so much that she had to do something.

So, what’s your reason for going under the knife?
