Dr. Grant Stevens developed The Stevens LIFT, Laser-assisted Internal Fabrication Technique, which utilizes The Stevens Laser Bra.
The Procedure: The procedure generally takes two hours. Swelling and discomfort are minimal. This procedure does not increase the risk of breast surgery . With the patient in the upright position, the new position of the nipple is marked. Then, once the patient is under general anesthetic, incisions are horizontally and vertically made, adhering to the natural contours of the breast. The laser is then used to preserve the pedicle of the breast tissue that supports the nipple. The entire breast, along with the nipple, is lifted. Excess fat, tissue and skin are removed from each side of the breast. Once the breast is repositioned, the incisions are closed with dissolving sutures under the skin.
Dr. Stevens' method minimizes the possibility of "fallout" of the breast. The shape of the breast is maintained by creating The Stevens Laser Bra. This is achieved by using the laser to de-epithelialize the skin that would have otherwise been discarded, forming a bra out of the patient's own tissue. This bra is then attached to the chest wall where it holds and supports the breast.
What the Stevens Laser Bra is all about: The whole point of The Stevens Laser Bra is to create a beautiful, longer lasting and more permanent lift of the breast when performing a breast reduction, augmentation, mastopexy or standard breast lift. In traditional breast lift surgery, the skin envelope was reduced in size and tightened. This allowed the nipple and the areola complex to be lifted. Generally speaking, the breast reduction performed resulted in skin that was excised and discarded.
As a result of performing this procedure, Dr. Stevens fashioned an internal bra using the normally discarded skin along with the CO2 laser to create a natural long term effect. A CO2 laser is used to de-epithelialize the patient's own skin and create an internal bra. This Stevens Laser Bra is then attached to the chest wall, holding up the breast tissue. This helps create a more aesthetically-pleasing shape to the breast. The Stevens Laser Bra maintains a perky uplifted shape.
The good thing about this Laser Bra: One of the greatest attributes of The Stevens Laser Bra is the greater longevity and lift for cosmetic breast surgeries (including Breast Lift, Breast Reduction and Breast Augmentation). What's more, The Stevens Laser Bra is fashioned from a patient's own tissue, unlike a previously hyped "mesh bra" which is actually made of plastic and foreign material. The Stevens Laser Bra cannot be felt by the patient.
In addition, the blood supply to the nipple and areola (with breast reduction surgery) is maintained and Dr. Stevens no longer considers performing free nipple grafts. This enables patients to generally maintain nipple sensation as well as the ability to breast feed.
Candidates for The Steven’s Laser Bra: Women with large breasts who suffer from back and neck pain and indentations in the shoulder from bra straps can opt for this procedure. Though age is not a deciding factor, patients must be healthy.
